Graveyard
~ Humaira Haroon ~Don’t make my graveyardI don’t want to be buried
I don’t want to be remembered
From my life nothing I took or I carried.
Neither I want to be recognized
Nor even to be remembered by you
I will rest in peace with myself
With colorless passionate hue.
I won’t try to find myself
I won’t try to think where am I
My passion of search with itself
Revert me when I will die.

Literary Review by Dr. M A Ali: About twenty years ago written this beautiful poem carries a haunting yet beautiful sense of detachment from life, memory, and identity. Graveyard feels less like a poem about death and more like a meditation on the desire to disappear quietly, without monuments, recognition, or the burden of being remembered. The repeated rejection of remembrance gives the poem a deeply melancholic and philosophical atmosphere.
I particularly love the contrast between rest in peace with myself and the restless passion of search. It suggests that even in death, the speaker’s search for meaning and self-understanding continues. The final lines leave a lingering impression, as though the journey inward is endless and death itself becomes another part of that search.
There is something strikingly vulnerable in the poem, it does not ask to be celebrated or remembered. It asks simply to exist, and eventually to return to silence. The imagery of a colourless passionate hue beautifully captures that paradox of feeling deeply while wishing to leave no trace.
A quiet, introspective, and haunting poem, one that stays with us long after the final line.
Thank you very much for furnishing this beautiful poem here that enriches my blog as well.
My well wish is aways with you.
